MOVIE Review

TEKKONKINKREET ROCKS
I just saw Tekkonkinkreet... and omfg. Where do I begin? The visual sensations it conjures is amazing. The sense of frenetic/kinetic action is amazing. The themeatic imagery is stunning, breathtaking, and thought provoking. Simply the references, throwbacks, and homages to previous influences of the "genre" are enough to make me giddy. Even the animation style speaks volumes to theme. I wish I could say more. Let's put it this way. Check it out. Sh*t, I'm buying the DVD now, and then, I'm buying the manga. Only complaint, I read some of the manga, and I know they left out parts for brevity, but dang it.
PS. Some of you may be turned off by the last few minutes of the movie, but keep an open mind and examine the ideas, not purely the physical. Look at the themes, not merely what you see with your eyes. Simply put, take all your senses and analyze and pick apart at it, and you'll find this a rich and powerful movie, that if it fails as an entertainment experience, still succeeds as a work of kinetic art.
PSS. For the most part the characters display a sense of developmental depth that makes my mouth water and my mind fervent. My only wish is that there was enough time to develop all the characters equally (eg. like in Paranoia Agent).

Nostalgic for 80s fantasy films. When glitter was cheap, monsters were muppets, and Evil was smexy.
